Jordan Aviation gives the highest priority of caring for passengers with disabilities, assisting them, and facilitating their travel procedures to the maximum extent. Accordingly, Jordan Aviation has established and implemented this programs that can be used to assist passengers with disabilities when travelling on board Jordan Aviation flights, and to supplement the training and education of JAV employees as well as its external providers.

 

 


 

 

Wheelchair and Guided Assistance

1. LEAD the way!

JAV handling team are responsible for escorting and assisting the disabled passengers who requires wheelchair service. This assistance process shall commence, from arriving to airport until boarding the aircraft and,

  • From aircraft “upon arrival” until cleared by customs and leaving airport arrival terminal.
  • Through transit time.

 

 


 

 

2. The ABCs of Accessible Travel

Rights of passengers with disabilities are provided and can be accessed through Jordan Aviation web site. This shall include important information to individuals with disabilities who are traveling onboard Jordan Aviation aircraft.

A. Ahead of time arrangements

Passengers with disabilities who wishes to receive any assistant services, types of equipment, or accommodations, are recommended to call Jordan Aviation reservation department in advance (At least 48 hours prior to departure time), to arrange for a wheelchair or any other guided assistance to board, deplane, or connect to another flight. A seating accommodation that meets your disability-related needs; and/or the loading and stowing of any assistive device.

Providing detailed information about the accommodations that you need in advance will assist Jordan Aviation personnel to provide those accommodations in a correct and timely manner and will facilitate your travel formalities in advance.

Type of services that might be required

  • Connection of respirator to the aircraft electrical power supply “if available, and if the device is approved”.
  • Hazardous materials packaging for a wheelchair battery or other assistive device.
  • Medical equipment for use on board the aircraft.
  • Transportation for a battery powered wheelchair.
  • Provision of an onboard wheelchair on an aircraft that does not have an accessible lavatory.
  • Accommodation for accompanying persons with a disability, who make reservations and travel as a group.
  • Accommodation for a passenger who must travel in a stretcher.

Important Notice

If passenger with disability does not meet the advance notice or check-in requirement, still Jordan Aviation will make all possible efforts to provide the requested service, provided that making such accommodation would not delay the flight.

 

 


 

 

B. Be informed and prepared

Passengers are required to:

  1. Confirm accessibility needs with Jordan Aviation and other airlines involved in their journey.
  2. Be alert to departure time and boarding gate changes, and notify airline personnel of your need to move to a different gate, if necessary.
  3. Check flight status before arriving to airport.
  4. Arrive as early as possible to allow for timely check-in, security screening, immigration and boarding formalities (Preferably 03 hours before standard time of departure).
  5. When traveling with a wheelchair or other assistive device, consider bringing any special handling instructions for JAV personnel.
  6. Inform JAV staff of your arrival time to airport.

Jordan Aviation Obligations

Upon the request of a passenger with a disability, Jordan Aviation personnel are responsible for ensuring the provision of assistance to passengers with disabilities, including:

  1. Meet and assist departing passengers with disability from airport gate all the way to aircraft and through all terminal functions.
  2. Meet and assist arriving passengers with disability from aircraft throughout airport functions all the way to their own transportation.
  3. Guiding to a restroom entrance, if time allows.
  4. Boarding and disembarkation.
  5. Transferring between gates to connect to another flight or other airline.
  6. Baggage assistance and claim areas if required.
  7. Assisting passengers with their service animal.

3. Wheelchair and Guided Assistance Tips

What is an assistive device?

An assistive device is any piece of equipment that assists a passenger with a disability to cope with the effects of his or her disability. Such devices are intended to assist a passenger with disability to hear, see, communicate, maneuver, or perform other functions of daily life. Assistive devices include (but are not limited to):

  • Crutches and Walkers
  • Prosthetics
  • Wheelchairs
  • Hearing aids
  • Portable Oxygen Concentrators
  • Any medical devices needed to administer those medications (e.g., syringes or auto-injectors).

Note: Only JAV Oxygen cylinders may be used.

Assistive Device Stowage

You may bring your assistive device onboard and stow it fit:

  • In an overhead compartment.
  • Under the seat in front of you.
  • In a designated stowage area if the device fits and is in accordance with JAV safety procedure.

Your assistive device does not count towards the JAV baggage limit; however, if your bag also contains personal items, then it may count.

Your bag weight will be treated in accordance with JAV baggage allowable weight. Excess baggage weight and extra pieces are subject to excess baggage fee.

IF your assistive device cannot be stowed in the passenger cabin as carry-on baggage, it can be stowed as cargo at no extra cost.

JAV shall return your assistive device in the same condition as it was received.

JAV should return your device to you in a timely manner as close as possible to the door of the aircraft, unless you ask to pick it up in baggage claim area.

 

 


 

 

Using your Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) onboard

Your Portable Oxygen Concentrator must meet all national and international requirements or have a manufacturer’s label indicating that it is safe for use onboard an aircraft.

Jordan Aviation may require you to:

  1. Provide up to 48-hours advance notice that you will use your POC onboard.
  2. Provide a medical certificate for the use of your POC onboard.
  3. Bring a supply of fully charged batteries to power your device for no less than 150% of the duration of the flight.
  4. Check in one hour before the standard check in time for the flight. (04 hours before standard time of departure).

 

 


 

 

Know before you go

JAV may require up to 48-hours advance notice for certain assistive devices, such as the transportation of an electric wheelchair or the use of a POC machine onboard an aircraft.

  1. Arrive at the airport and check in for your flight as early as possible (03 hours before the standard time of departure).
  2. Because Jordan Aviation personnel may not be familiar with your particular assistive device, consider:
    • Providing written instructions detailing the disassembly, assembly, and stowage of your device.
    • Taking a picture of your device before your flight to capture its condition.
  3. Your device may not be able to be loaded in passenger’s cabin due to limited space according to aircraft type.
  4. You must request to pre-board the flight in order to facilitate your boarding process.
  5. If you need to use your assistive device during the flight, your Cabin Crew will assist.

 

 


 

 

4. Seat Assignment Criteria

If advised ahead of time, JAV provides advance seat assignments for passengers with disabilities, depending on the type of seating method your airline uses and your particular disability-related need, you may be required to ask for a specific type of seating accommodation more than 24 hours in advance or to check in one hour before the standard check-in time for the flight.

4.1 Seat Assignment Criteria

Passengers with disability will be assigned seats in accordance to their situation and medical fitness. In certain cases, JAV may not be able to grant you your seat requested if that assignment may jeopardize the aircraft safety.

 

 


 

 

4.2 Exit Row Seat Assignment

The following categories of passengers are among those who should not be allocated to, or directed to seats which permit direct access to emergency exits:

  1. Passengers suffering from obvious physical, or mental, handicap to the extent that they would have difficulty in moving quickly if asked to do so.
  2. Passengers who are either substantially blind or substantially deaf to the extent that they might not readily assimilate printed or verbal instructions given.
  3. Passengers who because of age or sickness are so frail that they have difficulty in moving quickly.
  4. Passengers who are so obese that they would have difficulty in moving quickly or reaching and passing through the adjacent emergency exit.
  5. Children (whether accompanied or not) and infants.
  6. Passengers with animals.

Exit rows must assign passenger who would be physically capable (able bodied) of assisting in an emergency evacuation, for this purpose, no passengers shall pre-assigned at exit row seat unless he/she reports physically at the check-in counter.

Utmost care shall be taken when assigning seats for:

  • Passengers with disability (PWD & PRM).
  • Physically or mentally handicapped.
  • Elderly.
  • Blind or deaf whether accompanied by seeing Eye/ hearing dog or not.
  • Children or infant whether accompanied by an adult or not.
  • Passengers whose physical size would prevent from moving quickly.
  • Pregnant women.

Note:

“Direct access” means a seat from which a passenger can proceed directly to the exit without entering an aisle or passing around an obstruction.

 

 


 

 

Seating Accommodations

If you are a passenger with one of the disability-related needs listed below and self-identity as such to JAV, you may qualify for one of the following types of seating accommodations:

Movable Aisle Armrest (If Available)

If you use an aisle chair to access the aircraft, and cannot transfer readily over a fixed aisle armrest.

Bulkhead Seat or Other Seat

If you are traveling with a service animal that is best accommodated at a particular seat.

Greater Leg Room

If you have a fused or immobilized leg and need a seat that better accommodates your disability, including an aisle seat or a bulkhead seat.

An Adjoining Seat

If you are traveling with a person who is assisting you during the flight such as:

  • A personal care attendant who performs a function that is not required to be performed by JAV personnel, for example assisting you with eating.
  • A reader if you are blind or visually impaired.
  • An interpreter if you are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • A safety assistant, for example if you cannot assist with your own evacuation.

Note:

If the conditions above do not apply to your situation, JAV is still required to provide you with a seat assignment that best accommodates your disability, which may include one of the seating accommodations listed under “Seat Assignment Criteria.”

However, if you do not meet the seating assignment criteria, JAV will only provide the seating accommodation to the extent practicable.

 

 


 

 

5. Frequently Asked Questions

Qustion1:

Must Jordan Aviation provide me with a seat in a different class of service in order to accommodate my disability?

Answer1:

No. Although JAV may choose to seat you in another class of service in order to accommodate your disability, but will not provide you a seat in a class of service other than the one you paid to sit in. For example, if you paid for a seat in Economy Class, JAV is not required to seat you in Business Class.


Qustion2:

Must Jordan Aviation provide an extra seat free of charge for a qualified passenger with a disability who needs that space?

Answer2:

No. JAV is not required to furnish more than one seat per ticket purchased.


Question3:

Can Jordan Aviation require me to change my assigned seat or sit in a bulkhead seat because I am traveling with a service animal?

Answer3:

Yes. In order to comply with the set regulations or applicable foreign government safety regulations. For example, you may be asked to change seats if you are traveling with a service animal that blocks the aisle.


Question4:

Can I request to sit in an exit row?

No, this is against the safety regulations.
